The Mount Laura Homestead was Built in 1922 by Mort Good who farmed South of Whyalla. In 1933 George Andrew Nicholson bought the station country on which the homestead stood. For several years after 1960 the Homestead was used as a poultry farm. Ninety acres were acquired by the South Australian Housing Trust in 1969 and 7 1/4 acres around the homestead was given to the Whyalla City Commission with the provision that the homestead was retained for preservation of the past. It is now the core of the museum.
